This is one of the best baby products that I own! Well worth paying that little bit extra for a product that will give you great value over time - as you will get so much use out of it. Especially great for city/apartment dwellers who will be using a carrier as much as they will a stroller. I also have the Baby Bjorn Miracle, which we used more when baby was smaller, so I have thrown in the odd comparison as I know lots of people compare these two carriers. Here are the Pros and Cons for the Ergo...
PROs:
- So comfortable to wear - and I have a 26 pound 10 month old! Soft cotton and the must-have waist strap to support the weight on your hips (please don't even bother thinking about buying a carrier without a waist strap!)
- Comfortable for baby. Baby LOVES riding in the Ergo on the front and back. There are lots of people who claim that the 'straddle' position is more comfortable for baby, than the 'crotch' position that the Baby Bjorn has and that the Ergo is better for baby's hips. I don't know whether this is scientifically true or not, but our baby has happily sat in both the Bjorn and the Ergo. I would say that the Bjorn worked well for us when baby was smaller and lighter, but he seems more comfortable in the Ergo now he is bigger and heavier!
- Multiple ways of wearing - front, back and side (admittedly I have not used the 'side' position...) There is not the option to face baby outwards, but personally for me this is not a con, as I never used this option on the Bjorn. Obviously every baby is different, but mine quite happily likes facing in, plus he can still quite easily see what is going on around him (and he is a nosy baby!)
-Sleeping hood/Sun cover. This is a great plus over the Bjorn. It blocks out the outside world and makes it a little darker inside. Even now our little guy will happily sleep in there when we go for hikes. This can also be used as a sunshade. I'm ashamed to say our baby got a tiny streak of sunburn on his face when he was a few months old and riding in the Bjorn. Although we thought we had covered him up well with a sunhat etc, the tiniest chink of light had snuck through onto his face! Admittedly he is fair skinned and it was not really the fault of the carrier, but we may have been helped out by a sun cover...
- Can be used through all stages of infant and toddlerhood, high weight limit - up to 45 pounds. You do need to purchase the infant insert as an extra (which is $25 on amazon) but this still makes it cheaper and more versatile than the Baby Bjorn Miracle. I have not used the infant insert, so can not comment on the effectiveness of this though. We were very happy with the Baby Bjorn while our son was a smaller baby, but he became too big for it by around 6 or 7 months (his legs bumped into my knees!) Looking back I wish we had bought the Ergo from the beginning, as we could have saved buying two carriers...
- Pretty - come in a variety of colors and patterns.
- Easy to wash and dry.
- Compact - folds down easily to travel with or put in the bottom of the stroller.
- Durable - Material is thick, yet soft. The carrier seems strong and well made. It's going strong after 4 months of constant use so far. I will report back on this after further use...
Cons - I honestly can not think of any! Some people have commented that they are rather pricey, which they are a little, but no more than any of the other premium baby products out there. I do not think they are as overpriced as the Baby Bjorn, considering the time span that you can potentially use the product. If you use it a lot, you get good value for money.
Overall - this is one of my MUST HAVE baby products. LOVE it!

I tried bjorn and other carriers and after 20 minutes of using my back was killing me. but with ERGO I carry my 20 lbs baby for a day and i felt like i didn't even have him on me!!!!U Have TO HAVE THIS ONE if you reaaly carry you baby a lot besides this all in one carrier it is up to 40 lbs....you carry baby up to 3 years old.so you will need only one carrier even with your baby growing...

When my baby girl was born we got a mothercare baby carrier as a gift and it was just a nightmare. Every time I put her in she was sweating, crying and trying to escape so I kept it aside for over 8 months bring the stroller each time I had to go for a smallest errand. All the time I looked at other parents carrying their kids around in crowded malls with envy while pushing my stroller through lines of people & thinking that's the last time I go out wit the baby. Then I decided to go for a mission of finding the right carrier and came across the Ergobaby. I was hesitant to buy hence it is expensive but now when I have it I do not regret. It's worth every penny. It's nicely padded but not heavy or bulky, very flexible and soft when the baby is inside, enough room to move around for baby, 3 positions to carry the baby around, no pain for mother at all. I just don't feel the weight of my 8 month-old and she loves to sit on the hip and look at people :) I generally do not leave any feedbacks but I want all mommies to fall in love with Ergobaby.
P.S I bought the original carrier though some people have mentioned it's quite hot for the baby to be inside. it's very light and breathable and there's no discomfort at all
